Funding & Financial Support

Making Accessible Wet Rooms More Affordable

At Accessible Wet Rooms we understand that adapting your home for safety and independence can be a big financial step.

That’s why we offer guidance on two key forms of financial support available in the UK - the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) and Zero-Rated VAT Relief.

Both can make your bathroom adaptation or wet room installation more affordable, helping you or your loved one live comfortably and independently at home.

Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG)

The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) is a government-funded scheme that helps cover the cost of essential home adaptations for disabled people.

You can apply through your local council, and if you qualify, the grant can fund all or part of your project - including wet rooms, accessible bathrooms, grab rails, and ramps.

Who Can Apply

You may be eligible if:

  • You or someone living in your home has a disability or long-term health condition

  • The work will make the property safer and easier to live in

  • You own your home or are a tenant (with landlord’s permission)

We can provide detailed quotes and plans to support your DFG application and work directly with occupational therapists and local authorities to ensure your project meets all grant criteria.

Zero-Rated VAT for Disabled or Elderly Customers

If you or a family member are elderly, disabled, or have a long-term illness, you may be eligible for Zero-Rated VAT on bathroom adaptations and wet room installations.

This means you won’t pay the usual 20% VAT on qualifying works - a significant saving when making your home safer and more comfortable.

At Accessible Wet Rooms, we help you understand if your project qualifies and guide you through the simple paperwork to ensure your VAT relief is correctly applied.

Who Qualifies

You can usually get VAT relief if:

  • The work is for a disabled or chronically ill person (including age-related mobility issues).

  • The adaptations are specifically designed to help with independent living or mobility, such as:

    • Installing level-access showers or wet rooms

    • Adding grab rails, shower seats, or ramps

    • Modifying bathrooms to allow wheelchair access

You do not need to be registered disabled, but you must have a long-term condition that affects your daily life or mobility.

What’s Covered by Zero-Rated VAT

The following items and services typically qualify:

  • Supply and installation of accessible bathrooms, wet rooms, or mobility aids

  • Design and adaptation work directly related to accessibility needs

  • Maintenance or repair of qualifying equipment

We’ll provide a simple VAT exemption form for you to complete before work begins. This allows us to apply the zero VAT rate directly to your invoice.
